I saw Rick Bernard for two conditions; a very painful long term tennis elbow and a new knee problem. The tennis elbow problem dated back about three years. I had received one cortisone shot that provided short term relief. Daily activities were significantly impacted by the pain, such as cutting up vegetables, using a mouse, cleaning windows, or any form of arm exercise. I was very skeptical about acupuncture but my doctor had recommended it.After the first visit when Rick used some special method to massage the elbow I felt much better. The treatment convinced me so much that I sought Rick's help for my knees. I had strained both knees walking 40 flights of stairs daily with our new puppy. I could not walk, pain medication did not work, and I was very desperate. My doctor wanted me to take stronger pain medications which I did not want to do. The same day I picked up the medication I saw Rick. He used needles plus some sort of electrical pulse and heat. After that one, initial treatment the change in pain level was absolutely astounding. It made such a big difference that I made appointments with an acupuncturist outside of Rick's practice as I had trouble getting appointments. The person I went to was very nice and knowledgeable but she did not use the special massage on my elbow nor did she have the electrical stimulation for my knees. Her treatment was more like a spa experience but it really did not alter the level of pain. I have gone back to Rick several times and when the knees are really inflamed his treatment makes a material and significant difference.
